There are two types of people in this world: those who use the Ruler Tool and those who don’t. It is very common to see rulers in any design software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. In this tutorial, you will learn about How to Use the Ruler Tool and how to properly use it in Figma.
The Ruler’s function is basically to add visual guides to your Canvas or Frame. You can use these horizontal and vertical guidelines to position your designs. To activate the Ruler Tool follow these simple steps:
So, If you enjoy going wild with guides, you came to the right place. After activating the Ruler Tool you can create guides by simply clicking at the top/left bar and dragging the line to the Frame. Vertical guides are blue, horizontal guides are red.
The Ruler Tool will come in handy if you have a very specific design pattern. Maybe let’s say you choose to snap it, or you just wanted to add margins without activating the grid, this feature then can be used as an additional feature alongside the margins and it will help you with future references to your design.
Eeeey, what if I don’t want to use the Ruler Tool? Chill, we suggest then check out the tutorial on What is the Layout Grid Tool and explore which tool suits you best. For now, thank you for following Figma tutorial.
