Say goodbye to the plain, grayish, Background Color used by other software, and say HELLO to changing it as you wish. Why? You might wonder. In this tutorial, we will explain the importance of contrast and how to change the  Background Color.

Training the Designer’s Eye

Before even creating a Frame, you should start with adapting the workspace to your needs. When we talk about training the designer’s eye, it means having the skill to create visual cohesiveness and coherence with the items you have. It doesn’t come naturally whenever you are working on a project, so it is important to train this ability.

  • TIP: Start copying references you prefer, or simply playing around with shapes, colors and images on the canvas until the designing process feels organic.

Adapting the workspace becomes important as it makes the design process more comfortable. Here is an example:

Let’s say that the project you are working on -an application or website- has the same color as the canvas background. This can cause tiredness when you are working since the eye has to do more effort at separating the frame and what’s inside of it from the rest on the canvas. Be mindful and take care of your sight, dear apprentice.

You can very easily change its color by clicking outside the frame, pressing on Background, and going for the color that feels visually more comfortable.

And voila! Nothing like a workspace that fits your needs. Stay tuned and always have fun with Figma.
